Imperial College PhD Scholarship Scheme

Funding

Successful candidates will receive funding for fees and a stipend of £20k per annum for up to 3.5 years.
Scholars will have access to a programme of career development and cohort activities delivered by a combination of their host department and the Graduate School.
Support will be available to allow a high degree of interaction with other researchers (at other HEIs in the UK and abroad) and research users. This will provide valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Eligibility
Applications are accepted from talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK and worldwide. There are no restrictions on nationality.
Candidates must be among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort, and in receipt of, or due to receive a first class UK degree or equivalent.
Candidates with Master’s qualifications should have achieved a distinction, or be able to provide evidence of high performance. They should also hold a first class UK undergraduate degree or equivalent.
Candidates with degrees from overseas institutions are strongly urged to determine if their scores/grades are equivalent to the relevant eligibility criteria.
Prior to applying candidates must have made contact with a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise their research project. Please note that supervisors are only permitted to supervise one scholar at any time.
Please note: current registered Imperial PhD students are not eligible to be considered for an Imperial College PhD Scholarship. The scheme is only open to new applications.
How to Apply
The Scheme is now open for applications.

You can submit your application through our online admissions system. You must ensure that you select “Research” when making the application online, and “Imperial College PhD Scholarship” and corresponding Department when selecting your Programme.

When prompted for a personal statement you must ensure that it consists of approx. 1000 words and outlines your academic and research achievements to date, explaining in brief your planned research project.
You must attach a scanned copy of the Candidate Endorsement Form [Word docx] signed by your supervisor and host department.
Eligible candidates will be advanced to the next review and selection process.

Review and Selection
Applications will be reviewed by a two stage process:

Candidates meeting or predicted to meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by the relevant Faculty Selection Committee which will select a shortlist of the very best candidates.
The final decision will be made by the Imperial College PhD Scholarship Selection Panel. The members of the panel are the Pro Rector (Research), the Head of the Graduate School, and the Deputy Faculty Principals. The Panel will consider shortlisted candidates from all Faculties. Scholarships will be awarded to the candidates who show the most potential.
Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on final interview by the Department and (if applicable) on the candidate receiving the predicted qualifications.

Applicants not selected for the scholarship will automatically be considered for the PhD.

Fulbright Degree Program for MS and PhD in US

The Fulbright Masters and PhD Program funds graduate study in the United States for a Master’s or Ph.D. degree . Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), these grants cover tuition, required textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance. USEFP also assists with the visa process.For the Masters degree program, eligible candidates will have either a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a Bachelor’s and Master’s combination totaling 16 years of formal education from an accredited university. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply, except for MBA applicants, who require 3 years of work experience.
For the PhD degree program, eligible applicants will have a Master’s, M.Phil or comparable degree (a minimum of 18 years of formal education) from an accredited university. It is highly desirable that candidates have work experience in teaching, research, or the public sector in Pakistan.
For both the Masters and PhD programs, all academic disciplines are eligible, except clinical medicine or PhD in Business Administration. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for all applicants. A minimum score of 136 is required on each section of the GRE examination, with a higher score on the section most applicable to your field of study. Applicants must also possess a high level of fluency in spoken and written English. Short-listed applicants will be required to bring proof of TOEFL registration with them to the interview.

Eligibility Criteria:

Pakistani citizens, residing and working in Pakistan, with strong academic histories in all disciplines except clinical medicine are welcome to apply.In addition to academic work, persons selected for Fulbright programs are expected to share information about Pakistani life and culture with their U.S. colleagues and with community groups in the U.S. On returning to Pakistan, Fulbright grantees are expected to share their U.S. experiences with colleagues and community groups in Pakistan. Successful candidates should be poised to assume leadership positions in their fields and must be committed to returning and serving Pakistan.

How to Apply

A complete application package includes application form, three reference letters, GRE score report and attach photocopies of transcripts including an explanation of grading scale of university issuing the degree. Most recent transcript must be attested by Higher Education Commission (HEC). Incomplete applications are not considered. Original application with references and attested copies of supporting documentation along with one additional copy of the complete application must be received at P.O. Box No. 1128, Islamabad before the deadline.

UNFPA Internship Programme

Objectives of the Programme

The UNFPA Internship Programme offers a small group of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNFPA operations. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of UNFPA work.

Applicants should have expressed interest in the field of development; ability to adapt to new environments and work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Interns work under the supervision of a staff member at UNFPA. The background of the interns is matched with the needs of the organization.

Qualifying for an Internship

Candidates for the internship programme are selected on a competitive basis. The profiles of the interns are matched with the needs of the organization. The following qualifications are required for consideration:

• Students should be enrolled in an advanced degree programme or have recently graduated;
• Students must have written and spoken proficiency in English; fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic is an asset.

Financial Aspects

Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern’s participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
