The ADME and Oral Formulation Research departments within the Diabetes Research Unit are offering an International PostDoctoral fellowship to a highly motivated and ambitious candidate. The Diabetes Research Unit focuses on improved treatments for diabetes and its complications, and is an integrated research unit of Novo Nordisk – a world leader in diabetes care.
The project will focus on development and optimisation of a dissolution/permeation (D/P) system – an in vitro system which permits simultaneous assessment of both parameters under physiological conditions. Specifically, it will examine the potential of this model to evaluate the interplay between dissolution and permeability of a range of solid and liquid-based enhancer formulations for protein/peptide-based drugs. It is a collaborative project between the ADME and Oral Formulation Research departments and the laboratory of Professor Shinji Yamashita, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Setsunan University, Osaka, Japan. The candidate is employed by Novo Nordisk. The first 1½ years of the project will take place in the laboratory of Professor Shinji Yamashita and for the last ½ year the candidate will work at the ADME and Oral Formulation Research departments located at the Novo Nordisk R&D site in Måløv, Denmark. The candidate must therefore expect to live in Japan for a major part of the period. Travel expenses between Japan and Denmark will be fully reimbursed by Novo Nordisk.
The starting date is March 1, 2012 or later, and the duration of the position is 2 years. The position is offered as part of the Novo Nordisk R&D STAR Programme (Science, Talent, Attraction and Recruitment). This programme supports the brightest graduate students in biotechnology, life, medical, pharmaceutical and engineering sciences, who want to pursue a career in pharmaceutical R&D.
Challenges
The candidate will become part of a laboratory located in a high impact center of excellence within oral drug absorption and thus exposed to world class science and in addition serve as a liaison between Professor Yamashita’s group at Setsunan University, and the ADME and Oral Formulation Research departments at Novo Nordisk.
Qualifications
You hold a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, biology or related disciplines. Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo drug absorption models is a requirement. Experience with formulation of solid and liquid dosage forms is considered an advantage. We require very good communication skills in English.
